Summary of The Duck and the Kangaroo, Class 8 English

Edward Lear is the author of this poem. It’s a funny poem about a duck and a kangaroo having a chat. The duck and the kangaroo are best friends. The kangaroo’s jumping fascinates the duck, who wishes he could hop as well. He also desires to leave the pond and go across the world.

As a result, the duck demands that the kangaroo carry him across the world on his back. The kangaroo requests that he sit steady at the end of his tail because he needs to strike a balance. The duck agrees to the terms and vows to remain motionless. The duck’s moist and chilly feet are another big source of anxiety for the kangaroo. Rheumatism terrified him.

The duck alleviates the kangaroo’s worries by stating that he has purchased four pairs of woollen socks to protect his feet. He also claims to have purchased a robe and cigar to keep him warm. As a result, the kangaroo promises to accompany the duck on a global tour. Both buddies are having a fantastic adventure.

The Duck and the Kangaroo, Class 8 Summary in English

The poem tells the story of a dialogue between a duck and a kangaroo. The duck and kangaroo are best friends in the poem. The jumping of the kangaroo captivates the duck. It wants to jump like a kangaroo and go out of the pond to see the rest of the world.

The duck complains to his friend the kangaroo about how uninteresting his life is since he lives in a pond. He never gets to see the world and enjoy the pleasure of wandering about. As a result, he demands that the kangaroo take him on a trip on his back.

The kangaroo demands that the duck sit still at the end of his tail so that he can balance himself. The duck assures his friend, the kangaroo, that he will sit quietly and silently, saying nothing except “Quack.”

After much deliberation, the kangaroo agrees to the duck’s request. He informs the duck that there is just one issue. The duck’s feet were uncomfortably damp and chilly, causing him rheumatism.

Hearing this, the duck declares that he has already devised a solution to the problem. He claims to have purchased four pairs of woollen socks for his feet. These socks will correctly suit his wide feet. Not only that, but the duck claims to have acquired a cloak to keep the cold at bay. He claims that, in addition to all of this, he will smoke a cigar every day to keep warm.

After hearing all of this, the kangaroo gladly decided to accompany the duck across the world. He forced the duck to sit on the end of his tail. They both gladly completed three circuits of the world.
